About Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC)
The Pennsylvania Turnpike Commission (PTC) is an agency established in 1937 to construct, finance, operate, and maintain the Pennsylvania Turnpike. The Turnpike itself is a toll road system that spans over 564 miles, consisting of the Mainline (I-76, I-76/70 & I-276), the I-95 Connector, the Northeast Extension (I-476), the Beaver Valley Expressway (I-376), the Greensburg Expressway (PA-66), the Mon-Fayette Expressway (PA-43) and the Southern Beltway (I-576).
PTC is responsible for ensuring the safety and efficiency of this extensive roadway network, which is crucial for both local and national mobility and commerce.

Use Case
PTC’s primary systems to support their projects include The Autodesk Construction Cloud (ACC), Microsoft 365, Outlook and Bluebeam. Design work involves both PTC engineers and outside consultants that need to work together in a secure and governed way. Design work is performed in ACC, all other content such as status reports, memos, budgets, etc. are created and managed in SharePoint. Bluebeam is where all markups are performed.
While these were all cloud-based systems there was no integration between them and no automated processes to manage the information in each, in the single context of a Project. Maintaining consistent sets of information between these platforms required an excessive amount of manual, brute force effort.
With a strong focus on innovation, The Turnpike Commission also sought to automate processes, gain stronger governance controls, and improve organizational efficiency.
Key Drivers for this initiative were the following:
- Work Order Management
- Email Management
- Project Setup (Automation)
- External Exchange of Project Information
- Taxonomy
- Search
- Reporting
PTC implemented ProjectReady across three types of projects: Digital Delivery Development Support Program, Aerial Mapping and Survey Open Ends. These projects share common requirements, such as SharePoint site taxonomy, automation of project setup, automated governance of vendor access and collaboration, as well as work order management, email management, and reporting. The goal was to take advantage of ProjectReady’s extensive feature set to streamline these processes and enhance overall project management.
